Creative Hustle Competition 2015

Here is your chance to find the right track to your future. If you are aged 18 – 30 and are interested in or pursuing a career in the creative industries then this opportunity is for you.
You are invited to participate in #MyCreativeHustle competition.

CRITERIA FOR ENTRY

Your creative hustle should be related to any of the following sectors.
  • Built/Natural Environment including -Architecture, Interior Design, Urban Design and Planning.
  • Visual and Creative Arts - Film, Fashion, Music, Animation; Visual Arts.
  • Business & Management for the Creative Industries including marketing and advertising; media and publicity.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION/ REQUIREMENTS 

  • Submit an original 30 sec video that ends with the line ……that’s my Creative Hustle.
  • The Video can cover any aspect of your work and include images, text and music.
  • The video must show you engaged in your preferred sector describing how you intend to make this hustle a profitable business.
  • Videos must be no longer than 30 seconds 
  • Videos can be submitted in common digital video formats shot on digital cameras including video shot on smartphones, but must be of high resolution.
  • The British Council’s decision on the winning entry will be final.

HOW TO ENTER

  • Upload your video on twitter with the Hashtag #MyCreativeHustle and copy @ngbritisharts.
  • Entries open June 2nd, 2015 and close at midnight on June 22nd, 2015.

PRIZE

Finalists will be invited to meet with a panel of professionals from the Nigerian Creative Industries sector and UK institution academics for a mentoring session in July.
The Winner gets a chance to travel to the UK for a trade/industry programme related to their sector.
  • (E.g an Architect gets to attend the London festival of Architecture or a Fashion Designer gets to attend London Fashion week)
The final prize will be communicated later subject to the sector of the winner.

Internship Opportunity: Web 2.0 and Social Media for Development

CTA has an internship programme aimed at students or young graduates. Interns are involved in the work of the programme in which they are placed and are given tasks related to their studies. They work under the supervision of a CTA staff member. The duration of an internship is 6 months renewable once only.

BACKGROUND AND MAIN PURPOSE OF THE INTERNSHIP

Since 2009 CTA has successfully implemented a series of training events known as Web 2.0 and Social Media Learning Opportunities in 42 ACP countries. This has resulted in approximately 3,900 trained people, 38% of whom women. Feedback from beneficiaries (individuals and institutions) has been extremely positive. In May 2013 the project was awarded the WSIS Project Prize 2013 in the category e-agriculture.
NG-[A_BA[MOBI_MW15_ALLB]:MOBILE_WEEK Each event lasts for 5 days and accommodates approximately 25-28 trainees who are selected on the basis of applications submitted after an open call. One day of the training is devoted to the introduction to the IMARK module 'Social Media for Development'. This allows trainees to perfect their skills through self-learning. In 2014/2015, CTA will extend the initiative to additional ACP countries in partnership with local host institutions.
A CTA team coordinates the implementation of the project. The auxiliary staff will work under the guidance of the project team leader and in collaboration with the other team members.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Recent graduate, 29 years old maximum.
  • National of one of the ACP or EU States signatory to the Cotonou Agreement (79 African, Caribbean and Pacific States – http://www.acp.int/content/secretariat-acp - and the European Union Member States).
  • University degree in ICT or communication-related disciplines.
  • Experience and keen interest in the area of ICTs, Web 2.0 and Social Media.
  • Knowledge in managing CMS (Joomla) is welcome.
  • Experience in designing and administering online survey instruments is welcome.
  • Good organization, inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of one of the Centre's two working languages (French or English) and a satisfactory knowledge of the other.

DUTIES

Under the guidance of his/her mentor, the intern will carry out the following activities:

  1. Assist in the organisation and follow-up of the Web 2.0 and Social Media Learning Opportunities.
  2. Assist in the selection of participants for distance learning courses.
  3. Interact and collaborate remotely with consultants, host organizations and beneficiaries using cutting edge technology.
  4. Assist in gathering and processing data for M&E purposes and for assessing project impact.
  5. Contribute to the gathering of feedback from beneficiaries including stories about success and failures.
  6. Contribute to the analysis of the results of impact assessments.
  7. Maintain the Web2fordev.net web site
  8. Promote Web 2.0 and and related social media platforms.
  9. Report on project activities via social media.
  10. Perform other tasks as requested by the supervisor.

ASTON MBA NIGERIA SCHOLARSHIP

Aston Business School is launching a dedicated Aston Nigeria Scholarship for aspiring business leaders and entrepreneurs. The institution has close ties with Nigeria through the alumni community and corporate social responsibility project – Books for Nigeria. Since the Aston MBA has a proud tradition of supporting talented students from Nigeria,hence a need for this scholarship for the eligible for aspiring business leaders and entrepreneurs.

This scholarship of £5,000 is available to Nigerian students who have submitted an application for the full time Aston MBA starting in October 2015. The deadline for this scholarship is Sunday 28 June 2015.


           Eligibility

Applicants wishing to apply for one of the Aston MBA scholarships must meet the following criteria:

  • Full completion of an online application for the Aston MBA. it is recommended that applicants submit their scholarship application at the same time as their MBA application (see details below).
  • Be a self-funded candidate.


     How to apply

    Applicants should apply by submitting a succinct cover letter to mbascholarships@aston.ac.uk making sure to note their full name and application number (this number will be included in their MBA application email acknowledgement). The cover letter should:
  • Be a maximum of 700 words
  • State why they have selected their programme of study, how they are going to apply the knowledge they learn in their career and 
  • Demonstrate your potential to contribute to the learning experience of the programme and become a successful ambassador for the school during your studies.
Applicants must be available for an interview (which may be via skype) as this is an essential part of the scholarship assessment. 
Applicants make only one general scholarship application for all of the above scholarships and are not required to specify which scholarship they wish to be considered for. This decision will be made by the scholarship panel.
